The two fields are different and computer science is a more broad-based field.

Computer science, which is a broad-based discipline, not only offers proficiency in all areas of computer technology but also teaches general skills including problem solving, logical thinking, and programming languages. Information technology (IT), on the other hand, is more focused on specific applications of computers such as designing websites and networks.

Computer Science is the study of computable processes and structures. In other words, it is the study of what can be computed by a computer or what computers can do. This includes study in both theory and programming as well as applications.

Information Technology is the processing of information - data, text, images, sound - via computers. The term often implies computer hardware and software which will process these bits of information and make them more accessible to humans. The term is sometimes used synonymously with the term Data Processing (DP) to refer to a specific kind of processing that deals with data on input and produces output in a comprehensible form for humans.

Computer science and information technology are two different fields.

One of the main differences is that computer science involves a lot of theory and programming, while information technology is more focused on practical usage.

Computer Science as a field of study includes many concepts such as algorithms and other formal methods such as set theory, type theory, and propositional calculus

While Information Technology has less theoretical focus than Computer Science; Information Technology is more focused on practical application.
